Meeting the family

3/18/14
We got to take Miguel home from the hospital early.  Papa and Mimi had planned to come to the hospital on Tuesday night but we left before they came.   So we went back to Shelli's and scooped up the kids (she had places to be so we couldn't stay and hang out).  We drove up to Papas.  That was the first time the kids really got to see him and hold him.  They saw him in his car seat at Shelli's for a minute or two.  Helena was so excited and couldn't keep her hands off of him!  He is going to be one tough little boy!
He looks so tiny and helpless in that big car seat!

These little girls could not be more pleased to hold Miguel!

Sophia is so excited to have a baby brother!

Nellie thought he was just like a doll.. and tried to push him onto the floor when she was done holding him!

Daniel is a great helper and thinks Miguel is pretty great!

James will never say it.. but he thinks Miguel is pretty great too!!

I love this picture!  This is exactly how she feels about her baby brother!  He belongs to her!

Mimi was a great protector of Miguel.  The little girls couldn't get enough of him, but were a bit rough with him.  Nellie needed help to hold him so she wouldn't dump him on the floor.

Papa was very patient... but he got a chance to hold the baby too!
This is grand baby #18 for Papa and Mimi!

Welcome to the family baby Miguel!!

Bella Baby

In Utah there is a photography company that has made arrangements to come to the hospital and take new born pictures.  There is no obligation.. but who can say no to these adorable pictures!

A little explanation for this one...Miguel was born on Saint Patrick's Day.   The nurses made him this cute sign.  I love it.. and asked the photographer to take a picture of it!  He is my Lucky Leprechaun!

1st visitor

3-18-14
Miguel had his first visitor.  We thought we were going to stay in the hospital with him until he was 48 hours but it turns out they were going to let us go home early.   Grandma Packer had already made arrangements to come out to see him on Tuesday morning.

This is grandchild #16 for her!

We meet at last!

March 17, 2014  ~ We got to see Miguel within the first few minutes of life.  He needed a bit of help from the doctors and nurses as he was born with lots of fluid in his lungs.  They were able to help suction it all out and get him breathing normally.  He went straight from the birthing room into the nursery and they called us in as soon as he was stable.
It was a full nursery with 3 or 4 babies in it.  We walked into the room and I didn't know which warmer I should be looking at.  Which one was my son?  They brought us over to him and I couldn't believe how much hair he had or how black his feet and hands were.  The nurses assured Sterling and I that it was normal for his hands and feet to be so dark and that within an hour or two that would fade and they would become pinker.  He was beautiful.  We couldn't hold him right away because they were trying to get his body temperature up a bit.  Sterling and I just stood there and watched his every move, in complete amazement at the miracle that he was finally here.   They said we could take pictures of him and we were so appreciative for the opportunity. (With Helena they wouldn't let us take pictures until we left the hospital) After about 30 minutes the nurse said it was time for his bath, and I got to hold him for the first time!
I got to give him his first bath.  He loved the warm water .  He had so much hair that we had to wash it twice.  It was tricky to do because it is so long and fine.  I was in heaven!

After his bath and another vitals check they gave us our own room.  They put us way in the back of the Labor and Delivery floor, where no one goes.  We had it basically to ourselves.  It was nice and quiet.  Sterling and I took turns cuddling our new son. It was wonderful.  They said we could bring our own kids on Tuesday.  Shelli had our other kids at her house and we spent our time enjoying each other and Miguel.  It was magical!

Welcome to our family baby Miguel!
